WETLANDS are typically a narrow, vegetated strip occupying many coastal areas and estuaries worldwide;

highly productive ecosystems with an ability to trap organic matter, nutrients and sediment.

They usually occur on poorly drained soils, along coasts, as northern bogs, swamps, prairie "potholes",

river bottomlands and floodplains.

There are a slew of wetland types ranging from moors to bayous. After researching wetlands briefly, I believe

that the shady seasonal creek best fits within the description of a carr, which is characterized as a depression

in land that is filled in with rainwater after developing ecologically enough to support trees.

Often times carrs further develop into woodlands.
